An Israeli man infected by the coronavirus tried to make a run for it by escaping from a hospital where he was undergoing treatment, according to a report.
The unidentified patient, who was hospitalized at Wolfson Medical Center in the city of Holon, was diagnosed with COVID-19 after returning from a ski trip to Austria, the Times of Israel reported.
“After four days of hospitalization, he violently broke the window and burst through the doors of the quarantine room,” the hospital said in a statement about the Monday escape attempt.
“After police forces arrived, and with the help of the dedicated hospital staff, the patient was returned to his room, and afterward was brought to the quarantine department that was opened at the hospital,” it said.
At least 277 people are infected with the coronavirus in Israel, where more than 50,000 people are under quarantine, according to the news site.
The country’s Health Ministry on Monday said it was considering drastically increasing the restrictions on movement for all Israelis in attempts to slow the rapid spread of the disease.
