A man and his girlfriend on Thursday were charged with capital murder in connection with the kidnapping and slaying of 3-year-old Alabama girl Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney.

Patrick Devone Stallworth, 39, and Derick Irisha Brown, 29, could face the death penalty if convicted of killing the toddler, who vanished Oct. 12 outside the Tom Brown Village public housing development in Avondale, AL.com reported.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family as they grieve the loss of Kamille,” Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr said when announcing the charges.

The child’s remains were found Tuesday night in a dumpster parked near the apartment complex where Stallworth and Brown live.

The tragic discovery marked the end of a widespread 10-day search for the girl, who was attending a birthday party with her mom outside the housing development when she was abducted.

Children at the party said they saw a man get out of an SUV and place Kamille inside the vehicle.

The day after Kamille’s abduction, police arrested Stallworth, whose Toyota Sequoia matched the description of the vehicle given by the other children.

He was also spotted on surveillance footage at a nearby store around the time Kamille disappeared.

Stallworth was charged with seven counts of child porn over images police found on his cellphone and released on $500,000 bond.

He was taken into custody again Tuesday, as was Brown, after authorities filed to revoke her bond in another case.

Adam Danneman, Brown’s public defender, previously said she “adamantly denies” knowing anything about the abduction and was “horrified” by the girl’s disappearance.

Stallworth’s lawyer, Emory Anthony, said his client had an alibi and wasn’t involved in the kidnapping. After the discovery of Kamille’s body, he requested to withdraw as Stallworth’s attorney.

Both Stallworth and Brown are being held without bond in Jefferson County Jail.
