A California couple who took a fatal plummet off a cliff at Yosemite National Park while snapping a selfie had alcohol in their system at the time, a report said Monday.

Meenakshi Moorthy and Vishnu Viswanath — who showcased their adventure-seeking travels on Instagram — had set up a tripod at Taft Point, overlooking Yosemite Valley, in October before they fell 800 feet down the side of a steep cliff, according to San Jose’s Mercury News.

A coroner’s report showed that the couple was intoxicated at the time of the tragic fall, the paper said.

“We can only conclude that they had consumed alcohol but it is unknown to what level of intoxication,” Andrea Stewart, assistant Mariposa County coroner, said in an email to the Mercury News.

The 29-year-old Viswanath, a software engineer in San Jose, and his wife Moorthy, 30, traveled the world documenting their trips to locales like the Grand Canyon, Paris, New York City, Niagara Falls, London, Big Sur and other scenic destinations.

A park-goer who witnessed the couple said they appeared to be having a good time but were in treacherous territory.

“She was very close to the edge, but it looked like she was enjoying herself,” Sean Matteson said at the time about Moorthy.

“She gave me the willies. There aren’t any railings. I was not about to get that close to the edge. But she seemed comfortable. She didn’t seem like she was in distress or anything.”

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the deaths was the jurisdiction of the National Park Service rangers.

“As far as what led up to it, that’s done by the National Park Service,” a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office told the paper.

Most workers at Yosemite National Park have been off work for nearly a month due to the government shutdown.
