It should have been one of the best days of his life, but instead, an innocent new father died in the same hospital where his twins had just been born, according to reports.

Tyrese Garvin, 20, was walking home from the University Hospital in Louisville last Sunday after the birth of his first children, a boy and girl, when he was hit multiple times in a random shooting, local station WAVE reported.

“He was very excited at becoming a father. Then, something like this happens and his children will never get to know him. That’s sad,” a family member named Gail told the outlet.

He spent several days in the ICU at University Hospital — where his twins were being kept in the maternity ward — before dying Friday afternoon. The babies were taken to visit their father before he died.

Three people ages 14 to 17 were arrested for the shooting. Their names were not released because they are minors.

“They’ve taken some of my life with them,” Garvin’s grandmother Cleatra Garvin told WAVE. “I just tell them to stop. Stop the violence.”
