A Republican gubernatorial hopeful in Illinois is mourning the loss of his son, daughter-in-law and two young grandchildren in a helicopter crash.
Darren Bailey, 59, confirmed the devastating news that his son Zachary, daughter-in-law Kelsey and two of their children were killed in a collision that took place late Wednesday in Montana.
The crash is under investigation.

Bailey’s son Zachary, daughter-in-law Kelsey and two of their three children were killed in the wreck. Ten-year-old Finn (left) was not on board. Facebook / Faithfully Fit Supplements and NutritionBailey’s 10-year-old grandson, Finn, was not on board the helicopter.
Bailey and his wife, Cindy, “are heartbroken by this unimaginable loss,” a statement from the candidate’s campaign said.
“They are finding comfort in their faith, their family, and the prayers of so many who love and care for them. The Baileys deeply appreciate the kindness and support they have received and ask for privacy as they grieve and hold their loved ones close during this difficult time.”
Bailey, a former Illinois state senator, was the GOP nominee against incumbent Gov. JB Pritzker in 2022.
He is running again, with the next election in 2026.
Pritzker sent his condolences.
Bailey and his wife, Cindy, “are heartbroken by this unimaginable loss,” a statement from the Republican’s campaign said.
