The alleged gunman accused of killing one person and injuring at least four others at a hospital in Atlanta has been identified as 24-year-old Deion Patterson, a former member of the Coast Guard.
The suspect allegedly became agitated before opening fire inside Atlanta’s Northside Hospital Medical Midtown on Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say he was visiting the hospital with his mother, who is cooperating with cops as they search for Patterson.
Police have released images of the shooter, clad in a hoodie and a surgical mask.

Police on the scene of the hospital shooting, which left one dead. WSB-TVPolice have warned the public that Patterson may be “armed and dangerous.”
The Coast Guard identified Patterson as a guardsman who enlisted in 2018 but was discharged from active duty in January 2023 after serving as an Electrician’s Mate second class.
“Our deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families,” the military branch said in a statement. “The Coast Guard Investigative Service is working closely with the Atlanta Police Department and local authorities in the investigation.”

Pedestrians make their way through the scene among swarms of law enforcement. APSurveillance photos released showed the shooter wearing dark pants and a gray hoodie with the hood pulled up. They had a mask on their face and appeared to be wearing a satchel across their front.
Police asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 911 and not approach him.
