WASHINGTON — Democrats yesterday selected Kentucky’s secretary of state, Alison Lundergan Grimes, to challenge powerful Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell next year.

Grimes, 34, is a pal of former President Bill Clinton, who urged her to enter the race.

McConnell, 71, was elected in 1984.
