Democrat Ned Lamont eked out a slim victory Wednesday in the Connecticut governor’s race and immediately made a plea for unity.
“Labor and business, Republicans and Democrats, we’re all in this together as a state,’’ Lamont said at a press conference at the Dunkin’ Donuts Park stadium in Hartford. “I need everybody rowing in the same direction.”
He said he got a “gracious” call from his GOP challenger, Bob Stefanowski, adding, “I look forward to working with him because we all need to come together — regardless of party — to solve our state’s biggest challenges.”
In a tweet Stefanowski, said he had conceded the race to Lamont and called him on the phone to “congratulate him on a hard-fought victory.’’
Results showed Lamont leading by about 18,000 votes with 99 percent of the election precincts reporting, giving him 48.4 percent of the vote to Stefanowski’s 47.1 percent.
