Democratic Sen. Jon Tester won a third term in Montana, besting Republican challenger Matt Rosendale, according to a report.

Tester defeated Rosendale, the state auditor, by a 49 to 48.1 percent margin with 92 percent of the precincts in, the Associated Press reported.

Republicans won 52 seats, allowing them to retain control of the Senate, but Tester’s win would help close the gap between the two parties in the chamber.

Tester would give Democrats and independents 46 seats — two races in Arizona and Florida are still undecided.

The Arizona contest between Democrat Kyrsten Sinema and Republican Martha McSally was still too close to call Wednesday and might not be decided until later this week because more than a million ballots have yet to be counted.

Rick Scott, the former Republican governor of Florida, held a razor-thin lead over Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, who’s seeking a recount.

Florida law requires a recount if the winning candidate’s margin of victory is less than 0.5 percent.

Scott’s edge is 0.4 percent.
