A day after Melania Trump publicly called for her to leave the White House, Deputy National Security Advisor Mira Ricardel has been moved to another, unspecified job in the administration.
“Mira Ricardel will continue to support the President as she departs the White House to transition to a new role within the administration,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement Wednesday evening.
“The president is grateful for Ms. Ricardel’s continued service to the American people and her steadfast pursuit of his national security priorities.”
Sanders didn’t say where Ricardel would be working.
Ricardel was thrust into the spotlight after the first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, issued a stunning statement Tuesday saying, “It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that [Ricardel] no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House.”
“The first lady would not take an action like this lightly,” Boris Epshteyn, a former special assistant to President Trump, told The Post. “For her to put out that statement, it must have been done with good reason.”
The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that Ricardel had gotten into a fight with the first lady’s staff over resources needed for Melania’s Africa trip last month.
Ricardel didn’t go on the four-country excursion.
The first lady’s team later told President Trump that they suspected Ricardel, National Security Advisor John Bolton’s No. 2, had leaked unflattering stories about Melania to reporters.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly along with his senior aide Zach Fuentes also said they believed Ricardel was feeding negative stories to the news media, CNN said.
Ricardel also butted heads with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
Grisham didn’t respond to a query from The Post on whether the first lady would be satisfied if Ricardel was demoted or moved.
