A New Jersey man visiting Walt Disney World was busted this week for telling a hotel worker he was sent by al Qaeda to “blow the place up,” according to a new report.
Gregory Lazarchick, 56, was at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa in Florida on July 21 when a greeter told him, “Have a great day,” local ABC affiliate WFTV 9 reported.
“I don’t want to have a great day,” Lazarchick allegedly shot back.
The Brick, NJ, man then added: “Al Qaeda sent me here to blow the place up,” cops said.
The disturbing threat allegedly was made “with a straight face and seemed serious,” an intern who witnessed the scene told deputies, according to the outlet.
“You think I am joking?” Lazarchick said, according to an arrest report obtained by the station. “I’m not.”
Lazarchick also told the greeter, “What if I don’t want to have a great morning?,” according to the intern.
“Well, you are at Disney,” the intern replied, according to the station. “You are almost obligated to have a great morning.”
Lazarchick admitted to making the threat, but claimed to be joking, investigators told the outlet. They described him as remorseful and apologetic.
Lazarchick’s sister claimed her brother suffered “a head injury four years ago and had been resuscitated, brought back to life and has not been right since,” the arrest report said.
He occasionally blurts out inappropriate comments, sometimes about former President Barack Obama, according to his sister. His wife reportedly died a year ago, and his son has autism, deputies said.
He was charged Tuesday with false report of a bombing, the station reported.
No bomb-making materials were found in his room, News 12 New Jersey reported.
