One person was arrested after a group of teens attacked a mom holding a 6-month-old baby in a violent assault caught on video.
Police took a teen girl into custody Tuesday afternoon in connection with the Oct. 18 assault in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, news station KSLA reported. No other arrests have been made.
The victim, Jamie McCoy, said she was on playground swings with her son when three girls ran up to her screaming.
“In that moment, I did not want to fight,” McCoy told KSLA. “I had my son with me and if you know me, then you know that my kid comes first.”
In the video, McCoy can be heard asking the girls why there was a problem.
“They said that I said something about somebody wanting to fight somebody [and] I had no idea what they [were] talking about,” McCoy said.
One of the suspects reportedly instructed another to “get her baby.”
“She said she didn’t care if I had my baby in my hand or not,” McCoy said.
McCoy said she tried to escape the situation, but she was punched in the face and knocked to the ground.
She said the assault left her with a busted lip and bruised cheek, but her son was not harmed.
“I took him to the doctor to make sure everything was OK,” she said. “He wasn’t hurt or anything, thank God.”
When days passed without an arrest in the case, an online petition on Change.org was started to get “justice for Janie McCoy.”
More than 8,000 people signed the petition Wednesday urging the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office to track down the suspects.
