Investigators searching for missing University of Alabama student James Gracey broadened their probe Thursday – deploying divers to the waters steps from the Barcelona nightclub where he was last seen.

Cops rolled out motorcycle units, and La VanGuardia reported that an area of the Somorrostro beach – just yards from the Shoko nightclub – was cordoned off.

Gracey was last seen outside the venue, voted the world’s 7th best nightclub last year, around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, heading toward the beach, according to the outlet.

Investigators are probing the theory that Gracey may have drowned.

Divers involved in the operation told Fox News Digital they could only see 16 inches in front of them as they navigated tricky conditions.

The 20-year-old was supposed to fly back from his spring break vacation on Saturday, his uncle, who works for CNN in Washington, DC, told the outlet. Gracey’s father has since traveled to Spain to help search for his son.

Police said they found his wallet on Somorrostro Wednesday, but Allison Gracey, the student’s aunt who is acting as the family’s spokesperson, said she couldn’t confirm reports of the find, as AL.com reported.

Cops are probing foul play as the junior student left with another person.

Investigators are trying to retrace his final steps – and nightclub officials said they would hand over any video if police requested it, according to Cronica.

The student’s fraternity pals have said they are “scared” for his well-being.

Gracey, from West Elmhurst, Il, was separated from the group inside the club before failing to return to the Airbnb he was renting less than 2 miles away.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep our heads up and remain hopeful that we find him safe, but it’s a tough time. And, you know, we’re scared,” Gracey’s Theta Chi fraternity brother Cavin McLay told WBMA.

“He is currently our chaplain, so he guides a lot of our brothers on their journey in their faith. We’re heartbroken, but we’re keeping our heads held high and remaining hopeful,” he told Fox News Thursday.

Gracey’s whereabouts remain uncertain – but cops found his cell phone when they made an arrest.

It’s not been confirmed if the arrest was linked to his disappearance.

Gracey’s mom, Therese, revealed in a Facebook post that authorities were in possession of the device, but his family doesn’t know if it was stolen from him.

While the trip wasn’t school-sponsored, University of Alabama “staff are in touch with the family and those associated with them to offer support and assistance in any way possible,” a university spokesperson said.
