Her owner couldn’t be happier, but she was still blue.
A lovable border collie was allegedly stolen from her home and later discovered unhurt, but splattered in blue paint.
Moments before the colorful crime, Elizabeth Meredith went outside to check on her dog, Dakota, but realized she was missing.
The 21-year-old Australian told the Brisbane Times the local vet called about two hours later with the news.
Dakota was fine, but found tied to the side of the road sporting a new, unwanted coat.
“She was bright blue and had chunks of hair missing,” Meredith said.
The dog owner suspected Dakota’s loud bark may have bothered someone and provoked the Cruella de Vil-inspired crime.
Dakota was reportedly traumatized by the ordeal and has yet to fully recover. “She has been really quiet, she is still scared and shook up,” Meredith told the Times.
Grateful that her cute pooch is back home, Meredith offered some cautionary advice. “Put locks on your gates and check on your dogs all the time to make sure they are there.”
Police are continuing to investigate the dognapping incident.
In an unrelated case in October, Meredith posted on Facebook that her cat, Maisey, went missing. It is not clear if she found her way home.
