Stephen Kinder, owner of Kinder Dog Training, shot himself in his car Thursday and died shortly after at a Cleveland hospital, according to police.

The 42-year-old trainer’s death comes three days after he was arrested for allegedly mistreating pets at his business.

Kinder faced five counts of animal cruelty following several complaints from pet owners who claimed he severely starved and neglected their dogs.

He was arrested Monday and released on $1,250 bond.

In one police report, dog owner Abigail Eastburn claimed Kinder returned her Great Dane malnourished and injured from spending seven weeks in his care, according to news station WTVC.

Animal control removed 16 dogs from his home Friday and determined all were severely starved, as well as dehydrated.
