Two drag queens sashayed onto the floor of the Oregon House of Representatives and delivered an awkward, over-the-top performance for lawmakers Wednesday morning — with one Republican official decrying the charade as pure “political theater.”
The bizarre fiasco erupted on the chamber floor in honor of a Democratic resolution recognizing “the artistry of black drag performers” in the Beaver State, Rep. Travis E. Nelson told The Post.
The Democrat is the first black LGBTQIA+ House member.
Video of the flamboyant display captured the two queens — one sporting a bright yellow shimmery jumpsuit, with the other rocking a rainbow-hued one-piece with a blue wig — lip-synching to Aretha Franklin’s “A Deeper Love” while dancing wildly and jumping up and down around the chamber for nearly five minutes.
“I’m not sure the Founding Fathers envisioned taxpayer-funded legislative chambers being turned into platforms for political theater,” Rep. Dwayne Yunker posted on X, with footage of the cringeworthy act.
“The House floor is meant for serious debate, lawmaking, and serving all Oregonians not partisan spectacles designed to push cultural agendas. If this feels more like a performance than governance, you’re not alone.”
Social media also went ablaze, with the scene drawing mixed reactions.
The bizarre act took place on the House floor, “a place meant for serious debate,” one lawmaker huffed. Oregon State Legislature
Democrats have a supermajority in Oregon’s House. Oregon State LegislatureMany blasted the performance as a waste of taxpayer dollars and a “mockery of womanhood.”
“I demand a full accounting of every penny paid in salaries for this fiasco, with every cent refunded to taxpayers,” one person posted on X.
“We’re not bankrolling public workers to gawk at drag shows – they can do that on their own dime.”
Another outraged commenter said, “Parents are doing all they can to clean their school and elected representatives are doing this in the house of the people. No words.”
“Yikes – I’d like to unsee that hot mess,” one X user said.
One person, who was in support of the performance, said “slayyy,” with pride flags included in the post, with another saying, “Drag Shows aren’t meant for just kids.”
President Trump has repeatedly expressed strong opposition to drag shows, particularly those performed in front of children, and members of the LGBTQI+ community serving in the military.
The president earlier this year fired the Kennedy Center board, appointed himself chairman and hand-picked members of his own board, slamming previous leadership for allowing drag shows that were “specifically targeting our youth” at the historic landmark in Washington, DC.
Yunker and Oregon’s Democratic Caucus did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
