CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A West Virginia driver is accused of fleeing a traffic stop, attempting to crash into a Charleston police officer and leading authorities on a multicounty chase that ended in a crash.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports 39-year-old Jonathan Douglas Gillispie has been arrested on charges including attempted murder. Police Lt. Autumn Davis says an officer pulled over Gillispie early Wednesday in a truck that had been reported stolen.

She says the officer was approaching the vehicle when the driver accelerated at the officer, who fired at the vehicle but didn’t hit anyone. Gillispie then fled Kanawha County into Boone County, where he and another Charleston police officer crashed into each other. Gillispie, his passenger and both officers were treated for minor injuries.

It’s unclear if Gillispie has a lawyer.
