A man spotted a 10-month-old baby crawling across a busy New Jersey street and escorted it back to safety, a report said Monday.

Cory Cannon was driving through Lakewood, New Jersey, on Saturday when he saw what he thought was a toy until it began moving in the middle of the road, according to the Asbury Park Press.

“I thought it was a toy or something until (the baby) moved,” the 41-year-old Cannon told the paper.

“I knew I needed to get some sort of proof and my GPS was open on my phone, so I used my work vehicle to slow down traffic behind me and took the pic as I was exiting the vehicle and halting oncoming cars.”

The good Samaritan approached the baby as a neighbor came outside. He followed the neighbor back to a home where he or she was ushered inside.

“I believe (the baby) crawled right out of the front door,” he told the paper.

The speed limit on the street is 40 miles per hour.

Lakewood police said the infant left through an open door and the family didn’t even know the baby was gone.

The incident was under investigation Monday.
