An intoxicated Florida man reportedly shot a 7-year-old boy who was playing with a toy Nerf gun at his sister’s friend’s house on Saturday night.
Anthony Knuth, 30, allegedly interrupted a group of children playing with the toy guns at a Sanford home, telling the youngsters he had a real gun with real bullets, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
The victim’s mother had left Knuth and the children in a room for about 10 minutes when she heard a loud pop and ran back inside, the report said.
“Anthony shot him,” the children allegedly told her.
She found her son with a gunshot wound to his left knee. He was taken to a nearby hospital.
After the shooting, Knuth allegedly muttered that he was going to jail for shooting a child, the report said, citing police.
Police believe Knuth shot the child with a .22-caliber firearm.
Knuth told investigators that he was drinking Southern Comfort and didn’t recall firing his gun.
He was charged with neglect of a child with great bodily harm and using a firearm while under the influence.
