Dubai frees rape victim
DUBAI — A Norwegian woman jailed in the United Arab Emirates after reporting she’d been raped said yesterday that she’s been pardoned and is going home.
“I am overjoyed. I have my passport back,” said interior designer Marte Deborah Dalelv, 24, whose story cast a harsh light on the difference between Dubai’s Western-friendly image and Islamic legal system.
It was unknown whether her attacker, a 33-year-old Sudanese ex-co-worker, was also pardoned.
