Palpable, 4.0 magnitude aftershocks of a morning earthquake Friday were felt from Philadelphia to Long Island, NY, at around 6 p.m. — about eight hours after a 4.8 magnitude quake hit the area mid-morning.

A rare earthquake shook the New York area Friday morning, rattling parts of the Big Apple, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey.

The preliminary 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Lebanon, New Jersey, around 10:23 a.m., according to the US Geological Survey.

The site later reported that a 2.0 aftershock was felt in Bedminster, N.J, around 1 p.m. Two other aftershocks, another 2.0 and a 1.8 happened in the afternoon, but are “normal and are not expected to cause further damage,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said.

'No reports of significant damage' from 4.0 aftershock: NY Gov. Hochul

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul tweeted at 6:30 p.m. that "there are no reports of significant damage at this time" from the 4.0 aftershock that struck the region about half an hour earlier.

NYC residents 'advised to remain indoors'

Residents in New York City and the Long Island area were hit with an aftershock of this morning's earthquake. The 4.0 magnitude aftershock was more powerful than others reported earlier in the afternoon. Notify NYC advised on X that city residents are advised to remain indoors, and call 911 in the case of an emergency.

Aftershock of 4.0 magnitude reported in Gladstone, NJ

A 4.0 magnitude aftershock was reported moments ago in Gladstone, New Jersey.

The shock seems to be the most powerful yet, short of the 4.8 magnitute earthquake that occurred this morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Breaking: Major aftershock reported in NYC, on LI

Another aftershock from this morning's earthquake was felt moments ago by many in New York City and Long Island.

The Post can confirm tremors were felt in parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, outside Philadelphia, on Long Island and in midtown Manhattan.

'We just felt what we assume is a small aftershock': NYC mayor's office

Shortly after 6 p.m. ET Friday, NYC Mayor Eric Adams' spokesperson tweeted that the office "felt what we assume is a small aftershock," and said the city's emergency management department would have an update soon.

Residents in Newark, NJ forced to evacuate after earthquake

Region hit by three aftershocks following this morning's earthquake: Hochul

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said on X that the aftershocks from today's earthquake are "normal" and that they aren't expected to create more damage.

The most recent aftershock occurred a few minutes ago. Aftershocks are expected following an earthquake of this magnitude, according to the US Geological Survey.

One aftershock was 1.8 magnitude in scale, and two were 2.0, the governor said.

Following this morning's 4.8 magnitude earthquake, 3 much smaller aftershocks hit our region: 1.8 magnitude at 12:31pm, 2.0 magnitude at 1:14pm, and 2.0 magnitude a few minutes ago.

Aftershocks of these sizes are normal and are not expected to cause further damage.

“The doctor was like, ‘I think this is an earthquake.’ I figured he was messing with me, but he had to stop because everything was shaking,” Justin Allen of Horsham told the Guardian.
