The Virginia restaurant owner who wouldn’t serve Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended the ouster — as critics on Sunday slammed the refusal.
Stephanie Wilkinson, owner of The Red Hen in Lexington, told the Washington Post she asked Sanders to leave Friday because the White House press secretary works for an “inhumane and unethical” administration.
“I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty and compassion, and cooperation,” Wilkinson said.
Critics and supporters have since bombarded the restaurant’s Yelp page.
“Despicable and outlandish behavior. The only thing served here is a heaping plate of arrogance and hypocrisy,” wrote Russell McKinley of Texas.
Others on the web said Sanders had it coming.
“The person who thinks it’s right not to bake wedding cakes for [gay] people doesn’t like not being able to eat where she wants,” taunted Twitter user @renegadecop.
