A human Ebola vaccine can also protect vulnerable primate populations from the disease, a study in the journal Scientific Reports suggests.

“We vaccinate our children, we vaccinate livestock, we vaccinate our pets, we vaccinate wildlife — why aren’t we vaccinating our closest relatives?” Dr. Peter Walsh, the study’s leader, told the BBC.

Ten chimps received the vaccine, and their immune systems remained robust with no negative side effects.
