Egypt says police killed 40 militants Saturday following a deadly bomb attack that targeted tourists near the Great Pyramids.
Authorities raided three militant hideouts and said the extremists were planning attacks on tourist spots, Christian churches and government targets.
On Friday, a bomb blast killed three Vietnamese tourists and a tour guide and injured 11 others.
The attack came as Egypt’s vital tourism industry was showing signs of recovery after years in the doldrums due to the political turmoil and violence that followed a 2011 uprising.
