The Eiffel Tower was briefly evacuated Wednesday afternoon following a bomb threat that was later deemed to be fake, according to a report.

Police searched the area and found no explosives, a spokeswoman said.

The 131-year-old tower reopened around 2:15 p.m., Les Echos reported.

Several hundred people, including tourists and workers, were led away from the tower in the late morning.

“It was an orderly evacuation, there was no panic,” a tour guide named Manuel told Reuters.
