Tesla boss Elon Musk said his cars were not spying in China.

“There’s a very strong incentive for us to be very confidential with any information,” Musk said during a virtual meeting of the China Development Forum Saturday, Reuters reported.

“If Tesla used cars to spy in China or anywhere, we will get shut down,” Musk continued.

Musk, who, depending on the markets, is the richest person on Earth, was responding to news that the Chinese military had banned Tesla’s from their facilities over concerns about cameras located on the cars.

Tesla has made big moves into China’s electric vehicle market in recent years, selling more than 147,000 there in 2020. The landscape, however, is becoming more competitive as China’s own domestic brands, including Nio Inc and Geely, continue to cut into sales.
