Scientists have achieved a rat “mind meld” — using lab rats separated by thousands of miles.
They inserted an ultra-thin electrode into the brain of a thirsty rodent in Natal, Brazil, and connected the gizmo to a computer. When the rat pressed the correct lever for a sip of water, its thoughts were received by another wired-up rat at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina.
And the second rat pressed the correct lever, too, according to the study in yesterday’s journal Scientific Reports.
The findings could lead to “organic computers” linking brains to solve problems, researchers said.
