RANDOLPH, Vt. — A former co-principal at a Vermont high school faces criminal charges of sexually exploiting a student.

Randolph authorities officially charged 50-year-old David Barnett on Tuesday after a lengthy investigation. WCAX-TV reports the Waitsfield resident had been on paid leave from Randolph Union High School since late last year.

Authorities say the school informed them that Barnett had an “inappropriate relationship” with a student. The school district previously declined to reveal the nature of the student’s allegations.

Barnett is scheduled to appear in court April 25. A phone listed under Barnett’s name was not answered Tuesday and it is not immediately known if he’s being represented by an attorney.
