An Aeroflot executive has been nabbed for allegedly spying for Britain, according to Russian news agencies.

The London-based employee, Dmitry Fedotkin, is accused of passing secrets related to Russia’s social and political situation to Britain’s MI6 foreign intelligence service, according to an unnamed source cited by TASS and RIA news agencies.

Fedotkin, however, did not have access to state secrets linked to the aviation industry.

His Linkedin profile says he’s been Aeroflot’s station manager in Britain for the last five years and served as the airline’s UK country manager for almost three years before that.

Fedotkin has denied any wrongdoing.

Records show Moscow’s Lefortovsky District Court opened a state treason case against an individual named D.A. Fedotkin on Wednesday.

If convicted of high treason, he could face up to 20 years in jail.

Aeroflot said it didn’t have any information about the case, while the British embassy in Moscow referred questions to Russian authorities.

Relations between London and Moscow hit an all-time low following the 2018 poisoning of Sergei Skripal, a former Russian spy who betrayed Russian agents to MI6.
