A person was found dead inside a Los Angeles apartment building after an explosion that investigators suspect was sparked by fireworks or “homemade explosives,” police said.
The blast ripped through the complex in suburban Bell Gardens Tuesday night, leaving a child and an adult injured and displacing multiple families.

An initial investigation of the scene revealed “materials consistent with homemade explosives and fireworks,” police said.

Bell Gardens Police Chief Paul Camacho said building inspectors deemed the building unsafe for occupancy.
Between four and five families were displaced by the damage, and the American Red Cross was called in to help, CBS News reported.
