A massive explosion rocked the city of Wilmington, North Carolina, Tuesday morning after a car crashed into a building’s gas line.
Stunning footage captured a plume of smoke towering from New Centre Drive around 11:30 a.m., shortly after a car lost control during a turn and crashed into Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center, about 7 miles east of the city’s scenic Riverwalk.
Debris rained down from the sky across the surrounding blocks as witnesses looked on in awe and terror.

Smoke coming from a fire at the scene of the explosion. Jordan Branyon/TMX“Oh my God. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh,” one man repeated while he filmed from a nearby car dealership lot. Sirens wailed in the distance and chunks of the building fell audibly to the pavement nearby.
It remains unclear if the impact of the car caused the explosion, or the gas line burst later.
Firefighters rushed to the scene, with three suffering severe burns to their hands, WECT reported.

No charges have been announced yet, StarNews Online reported.

But photos from the aftermath showed chunks of the facade and roof blown completely apart, as fires continued to smolder.
The explosion could be heard over a mile away on the University of North Carolina’s Wilmington campus, according to StarNews.
Wilmington is located on North Carolina’s southeast coast.
Known as “Wilmywood,” the city has served as the filming location for numerous movies and TV shows, including “Iron Man 3,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “One Tree Hill” and “We’re the Millers.”
