Facebook removed references to Russia in a public report they released in April about the use of their platform to meddle in the 2016 presidential election.

The company report was amended to remove any information about Russia and its attempts to wage a disinformation campaign on their platform, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Instead, the report referred to “malicious actors” waging influence campaigns on the site, the Journal said.

Facebook’s legal team had deemed the information too speculative.

Months later, in a blog post, the company revealed that some of the pages engaged in the activity “likely” operated out of Russia.
