The families of Ahmaud Arbery and Trayvon Martin are eager to meet.

Lee Merritt, a lawyer for Arbery’s mother told TMZ last week he was trying to set up a meeting between the families of the two African American men who were shot dead by white vigilantes.

Arbery, 25, was killed while jogging on a Brunswick, Georgia, road in February after he was confronted by two armed white men who claimed they thought he was involved in a string of burglaries. The father and son — Gregory McMichael, 64, and Travis McMichael, 34 — were not arrested until last week after a video of the shooting surfaced on May 5.

Martin, a 17-year-old high school junior, was unarmed when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in Florida in 2012. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, claimed self-defense and was acquitted of murder a year later.

Merritt said the families hope to speak by phone in the near future in an effort to support each other and advocate for justice, TMZ reported.
