The family of Africa’s youngest billionaire, who was kidnapped last week, is offering nearly half a million dollars for any information on his whereabouts.
“To increase efforts in getting our beloved son, the family announces a present of 1 billion shillings ($436,000) to anyone who will facilitate potential information that will help get him immediately,” said Mohammed “Mo” Dewji’s uncle, Azim Dewji, a spokesman for the family.
The family, he assured, “will protect the information and its provider.”
Dewji, 43, owner and president of the conglomerate METL Group, was abducted last Thursday while heading into a luxury hotel in the East African country of Tanzania.
Authorities have said he was snatched by two white men outside the oceanfront Colosseum Hotel and Fitness Club in Dar es Salaam.
The kidnappers, believed to be foreign nationals, fired shots into the air before driving off with Dewji in a car, according to witnesses.
Police told CNN Monday that authorities have not yet received a ransom demand for Dewji.
About 20 men have been arrested in connection with the abduction, cops said, according to CNN.
A motive for the kidnapping remains unknown.
Dewji has a net worth of $1.5 billion and is Tanzania’s only billionaire, according to Forbes.
