DUNNELLON, Fla. — Officials say a 40-year-old man has been killed in a hang-gliding crash at a small north Florida airport.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports that Marion County sheriff’s deputies say the crash happened Tuesday evening at Dunnellon Airport.

The officials say Tomas Banevicius of New York was killed during his third flight of the day. Reports didn’t list his hometown but said he was about 35 feet in the air when the craft fell to the ground nose-first.

Marion County Fire Rescue officials declared Banevicius dead at the scene shortly after 6 p.m. Officials say they believe the death was accidental.

Authorities say Banevicius was part of a New York group called U.S. Hang Gliding Inc. that trained in Florida.
