A dad who believes his soldier son died hunting for accused deserter Bowe Bergdahl was furious Monday that the former Taliban POW had returned to active duty.
“I find it unbelievable. I don’t understand what’s wrong with these people. He’s a deserter from the US Army, and he should be treated as such. He should be charged with desertion under the uniform code of military justice,” fumed Andy Andrews, father of 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews, who was 34 when he was killed in Afghanistan in September 2009.
His platoon mates told Andrews’ father they were searching for Sgt. Bergdahl, now 28, when his son was killed in an ambush.
“I think they [the Obama administration] are doing this to justify the release of the five Taliban [who were swapped for Bergdahl],” Andrews told The Post from his home in Cameron, Texas.
Bergdahl returned to active duty — a desk job — at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on Monday, the Army said.
