A father and son are being sought in the murder of a Michigan dollar store security guard in what police said started as a dispute over a coronavirus mask.

Larry Teague, 44, with his 23-year-old son, Ramonyea Bishop, allegedly confronted guard Calvin Munerlyn shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday inside the Flint Dollar Family store, accusing him of “disrespecting” Teague’s wife in the earlier beef over the mask, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said at a press conference Monday.

Bishop then allegedly walked up to Munerlyn and shot him in the back of the head, Leyton said.

“One of the black males started yelling at Munerlyn about disrespecting his wife,” Leyton said. “The other black male then walks up to Munerlyn and shoots Munerlyn. Both males then exit the store. Witnesses identified the suspects as Larry Teague and Ramonyea Bishop.”

Prosecutors Monday issued felony warrants for both men — who are still on the loose — on murder and weapons charges.

Leyton said Teague’s wife, Sharmel Teague, 45, is in custody and will also be charged in the case.

The shooting allegedly stemmed from an argument between Sharmel Teague and Munerlyn inside the store at about 1:40 p.m., officials said.

Although she was wearing a mask, as required under an order from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, her daughter was not, Leyton said.

When Munerlyn approached the two, Sharmel Teague became incensed and the two got into a heated argument, he said.

She left in a red GMC Envoy and drove to the River Village Apartments nearby, Leyton said. About 20 minutes later, Larry Teague and his son allegedly returned in the same vehicle and confronted Munerlyn, Leyton said.

That’s when Bishop allegedly fired the fatal shot.

Munerlyn, a father of six, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
