“FBI Chicago is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in the Chicago area in relation to yesterday’s tragic shooting in Washington, DC,” the FBI Washington field office confirmed in a post on X.

Around a dozen law enforcement vehicles were seen parked outside the multi-unit brick building Wednesday morning, with federal agents spotted sitting in unmarked cars, The New York Times reported. FBI bomb technicians were also present at the scene.

A window of the unit believed to be Rodriguez’s displayed a pair of signs mentioning Palestine. One read “Justice for Wadea,” a reference to a 6-year-old Palestinian American boy stabbed to death in Chicago by his landlord in October 2023. The landlord, incited by war between Israel and Hamas, was later convicted of murder.

Another sign read “Tikkun Olam means free Palestine,” invoking a Hebrew phrase meaning “repairing the world,” The New York Times reported.

Rodriguez, 31, had allegedly chanted “Free, free Palestine” moments before he confessed to gunning down the couple, identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, as they left the American Jewish Committee’s ACCESS Young Diplomats Reception just after 9 p.m.

Investigators are looking into whether Rodriguez is behind a hateful 900-word manifesto  bearing his name and dated a day before the slayings that began circulating on social media after his arrest.

The manifesto appeared to suggest the killings were an act of political protest inspired by Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.

FBI Director Kash Patel pledged the bureau would bring its full resources to bear as it investigates the horrific attack.

“Last night’s act of terror has the full attention of the FBI. Targeted anti-Semitic violence is an attack on our core values and will be met with the full weight of federal law enforcement,” he said on X Thursday.

“The individual responsible will be held accountable, and the Bureau will continue pursuing every lead until justice is served.”
