The FBI released 412 pages of documents on its case against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page – the evidence it used to win a surveillance order that lies at the heart of Republican claims of bias in the Department of Justice.

The heavily redacted materials contain the initial Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) application targeting Page, claiming that the FBI “believes Page has been the subject of targeted recruitment by the Russian government … to undermine and influence the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election in violation of U.S. criminal law.”

The supporting documentation is so thoroughly redacted as to be virtually incomprehensible, but appears to rely heavily on a dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, who was paid by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign for the work.

Page, who has denied the FBI’s conclusions, has not been charged as a result of the FBI’s year-long surveillance effort against him.
