A FedEx contract worker has been busted for allegedly dumping dozens of packages in the woods to avoid working late.

Latavion Lewis was arrested after a post office in Bonifay, Florida, received several reports of FedEx packages littering the roadside and wooded area during the busiest delivery season of the year.

The contracted worker from Alabama agreed to meet with deputies — and confessed to tossing the packages rather than return them to the FedEx warehouse “due to the late hour” he was working, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials have so far recovered 44 packages, allowing them to be “delivered to their rightful owners.”

Lewis was charged with grand theft, illegal dumping and organized scheme to defraud. He remained locked up at the Holmes County Jail as of Monday, Al.com reported.

FedEx confirmed to People Magazine that Lewis is no longer affiliated with the company.

“This incident is completely unacceptable as the safe and secure transport of our customers’ shipments is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with authorities in their investigation,” a FedEx spokesperson said in a statement.

“In addition to being charged with criminal offenses, the individual involved is no longer providing service for our company,” the company said.

FedEx said it is “working to ensure that these packages are delivered to their intended recipients.”

Last month, FedEx said it was prepared to process a whopping 16 million packages a day ahead of the holidays.
