The Justice Department investigated a now-defunct Vermont college once run by Bernie Sanders’ wife, it was reported Thursday.

E-mails between an attorney for Burlington College and a Vermont state education official revealed that Justice had been investigating “some aspects of the college’s ­activities,” according to the Web site VTDigger.com.

Jane O’Meara Sanders reportedly overstated donations made to the college while applying for a loan for the school while she was serving as president, the news site said.

It was not clear Thursday whether the investigation had concluded.
