What happens in a Vegas firefighter’s bedroom doesn’t always stay there.
Firefighters in Las Vegas shared an explicit sex tape featuring a female colleague getting hot and heavy with her ex-boyfriend, according to a human resources complaint.
The complaint obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal claims the female firefighter discovered in June that the footage was being circulated among her colleagues after she sent it last year to her former boyfriend, who works as a firefighter in nearby Henderson, according to the newspaper.
“I want the individuals who are a part of this scandal to be held accountable for their wrongdoings and also for the emotional and mental distress this situation has caused me,” the woman wrote in her complaint. “I want to be able to go to work and not feel like everyone I work with is thinking of me in a sexual way, but more as a respected coworker that I really am.”
The firefighter, who was not identified by the newspaper, was put on unpaid leave in August as her allegations were investigated, according to her attorney, Jenny Foley.
A spokesman for the city confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, but declined further comment, saying the incident is a “personnel matter” with pending litigation.
Attorneys for the city received a letter from Foley in September that warned fire department brass to preserve all internal communications regarding the female firefighter, including documentation surrounding her employment and the probe into the sexually explicit video.
“There’s a level of trust that you have to have when you work in a first responder environment and when that trust is broken, everyone suffers,” Foley said.
A total of 17 current and former city employees were identified in Foley’s letter, including Fire Chief William McDonald, who declined an interview request by the newspaper.
Details of the video were not included in the newspaper’s report, but the footage was shared by fire officials as early as June 4 during an EMS training session, according to the complaint.
Days later, the firefighter learned about the video’s circulation when a male colleague told her he overheard other employees discussing it. The woman’s ex-boyfriend, meanwhile, told her he didn’t have the video and denied sharing it with anyone.
A fire battalion chief later told the woman that some employees had been disciplined in connection to the video, but insisted that no crimes were committed. The battalion chief also said it would take time for the incident to “blow over,” according to the complaint.
That failed to satisfy the woman, who filed a human resources complaint with the city four days later.
“I no longer feel comfortable at work,” she wrote.
The allegations are the latest black eye for Las Vegas’ fire department.
Several employees were disciplined in December following an investigation into sex at a fire station, but exactly how many were punished was kept secret by city officials, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. And earlier last year, a former city emergency medical technician admitted that she had sex in 13 fire stations since 2008.
