WASHINGTON — The first Democratic presidential debate will take place in Miami in June, it was announced Thursday.

Because of the huge number of candidates, there will be two debates on back-to-back nights on June 26 and 27, the Democratic National Committee said.

The debates will be broadcast on NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo.

“Miami is a vibrant and dynamic city that reflects the values and diversity of the Democratic Party,” said DNC chairman Tom Perez in a statement. “I couldn’t imagine a better setting for our first debate.”

Miami was one of the potential host cities that Democrats were mulling for the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

Instead the party chose Milwaukee, since Wisconsin was one of the swing states that President Trump grabbed from Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Florida is also a key swing state and traditionally holds one of the earliest primaries.
