A Florida middle school teacher has been missing for more than two weeks – and investigators are asking for help from the public to find him.

Robert Heikka, 70, was last seen on Oct. 25 at his home in Port Orange. He may be driving or in possession of a 2012 white Chevy Impala with Florida tags, Port Orange police said.

“We’re continuing to ask for the community’s help in searching for Mr. Heikka,” department officials said on Facebook Tuesday.

Heikka, who teaches at Creekside Middle School, didn’t show up for classes on Oct. 26, prompting staffers to go to his home, where he lives alone, WESH reported.

The colleagues notified police once they found no sign of Heikka at the residence, according to the station.

The veteran educator has been employed by Volusia County Schools since 1998 and teaches business education, digital information technology and keyboarding, WKMG reported.

Detectives told WESH that Heikka was spotted leaving his home in his Impala on the day he disappeared. His cellphone was later tracked to an area near Interstate 4 and State Road 44, but the device eventually shut off.

The area was scoured for signs of Heikka, including searches on foot and flyovers, but nothing useful to detectives turned up, according to the report.

Heikka’s banking and credit card accounts have also had no activity since he vanished and relatives told investigators he had no known health or personal issues, WESH reported.

A message seeking additional comment from Port Orange police was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Heikka is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, about 250 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. He also wears prescription glasses, police said. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call Port Orange police at (386) 506-5885.
