A Florida mom was arrested for allegedly abandoning her three young children inside an old preschool bus while she smoked pot in a nearby boat, authorities said.
Andrea Kerins is accused of leaving her kids — ages 3, 6 and 9 — inside the vehicle at the Gulfport municipal beach parking lot last Friday night, Gulfport police said in a press release.
Police discovered the children about 4:40 a.m. Saturday. The kids told cops their mother left them the night before to go out on a boat.
The Gulfport Marine Patrol later found Kerins on a boat owned by 46-year-old Yuri Radzibaba. Kerins was allegedly smoking pot on the vessel and said she planned to spend the night there.
The family appeared to be living inside the bus. Photos released by police show cramped and squalid conditions, with a five-gallon bucket used as a toilet and a propane tank hooked up to a small oven.
Cops said they also found a bin of mostly perishable food left out in the open.
The name on the outside of the bus, Meg’s Playhouse and Preschool, appears to be out of business, cops said. Kerins had no affiliation with the organization.
Kerins was charged with three counts of child neglect. Her kids were placed into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
