A 3-year-old Florida boy behind the wheel of a golf cart struck and killed a 7-year-old child this week, authorities said.

The toddler was approaching a curve near his home in Buckingham when he lost control of the cart and steered into the 7-year-old boy standing in his front yard around 4 p.m. Monday, the Florida Highway Patroltold The Post.

The older child was rushed in critical condition to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Neither of their identities has been released.

It is unknown if the boys were related or if the 3-year-old was under parental supervision.

Troopers said they are investigating how the toddler ended up behind the wheel of the golf cart.

Buckingham is about 10 miles outside downtown Fort Myers and is a part of Lee County.
