Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been hospitalized with double pneumonia two days after his staff announced he had contracted COVID-19.

His health setback was announced Friday by his aides, Sky News reported.

Berlusconi, who turns 84 later this month, was admitted Thursday night at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan but is not in intensive care, the report said.

He “passed the night well,” one of his top aides, Lucia Ronzulli, told Sky News.

Italian media reported that he will be isolating in a floor of the hospital that is set aside for VIPs.

Berlusconi, who lives near Milan in the town of Arcore, has said as recently as Wednesday that he intends to continue working to help the local campaigns of candidates for his Forza Italia party.

He led Italy for nine years ending in 2011.
