DELAND, Fla. — Foul play is suspected in the death of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found along a dirt trail in Florida.

In a Daytona Beach News-Journal report, Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokeswoman Angela Starke said Monday that DNA analysis confirmed that remains found April 18 in DeLand belonged to 16-year-old Justis Garrett of Mount Dora.

Starke said investigators suspect foul play in the teen’s death. The cause of death has not been released.

In a WFTV-TV report, Mount Dora police said Garrett’s mother dropped her off at school April 13. The teen was expected to take the bus home from school that day, but she did not return.

Five days later, joggers found the body near a dirt trail about 25 miles away in DeLand.
