Police were called to the Mechanicville home in Saratoga County for a welfare check around 6:20 p.m. when they discovered the bodies of a grandmother, her daughter and four grandchildren.

Amy Steadman, 64, Sarah Myers, 44, and Harper Harmon, 13; Hudson Harmon, 11; Gavin Harmon, 10, and Gracelynn Harmon, 10 – were all found dead inside Steadman’s Harris Avenue apartment, Mechanicville Chief of Police Bill Rabbitt said Wednesday afternoon.

Myers and her children lived in a different unit at the same apartment complex, the John S. Moore Homes, according to the chief.

“Investigators are treating this as a criminal investigation while awaiting the results of the autopsies,” Rabbitt wrote in a news release. “Based on the information currently available, there is no evidence indicating the involvement of any additional individuals.”

There is no known threat to the public and the investigation remains ongoing – including the cause and manner of death, he said.

Earlier Wednesday, the chief told The Post it was too soon to characterize the nature of the criminal investigation.

“Because the autopsies are still underway and investigators are continuing to gather and verify information, I am not prepared to characterize this incident as a homicide, murder-suicide, or any other manner of death at this time,” Rabbitt wrote in a statement.

“This is a tragic incident that has deeply affected our community,” he said Wednesday morning. “Our thoughts are with the family members, friends, and all those impacted by this loss.”

Concerned neighbors called for the welfare check after they had not seen one of the family members for several days, according to cops.

A complex resident told NewsChannel 13 she was distraught by the deaths.

“Very upsetting. Very upsetting. It’s, sorry, it’s just having a little guy and knowing that there’s just four little babies that are no longer with us, it’s very upsetting,” the neighbor told the outlet.

The Mechanicville City School District was reportedly making counselors available to students who were impacted by the tragedy.

Rabbit said his department, which is working with state police on the investigation, will provide more information as it becomes available.

The Saratoga County Coroner’s Office declined to comment.

The Mechanicville Housing Authority, which runs the apartment complex, did not immediately respond to inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Mechanicville police at 518-664-7383.
