A French woman allegedly became so consumed with jealousy over a well-liked colleague that she bludgeoned her with a wine bottle before hacking the woman’s body, a court heard Tuesday.

Sophie Masala, 55, is on trial this week for the premeditated murder of 52-year-old Maryline Planche inside a Toulouse apartment in May 2016, the Times of the UK reported.

The women were colleagues at a government agency in charge of funds for the disabled when Masala developed an “obsessional hatred” of Planche, prosecutors said.

Masala — who is a married mom of two — allegedly went over to Planche’s apartment in the southwestern France city to complain about her work habits.

But once there, Masala allegedly attacked the woman with a wine bottle then came back a week later with a saw to decapitate her, according to the report.

Using a spoon, the jilted coworker dug a hole in a public garden and buried Planche’s head, Metro UK reported. She then hacked up the rest of woman’s body and tossed the remains in the Canal du Midi, prosecutors said.

Masala has admitted to the macabre killing but insisted she acted in self-defense, according to reports. If convicted, she faces life in prison.

The trial is expected to wrap up Friday.
